Coming soon: Art Therapy Courses

As some of you know, I make a lot of the items I sell on this site, although I’ve been very busy with my day job of late, so not much time to sew. But it’s important to me that I sew, as it not only brings in revenue to help me provide my two rescue dogs with everything they need: it also helps me manage my chronic pain.

In a previous post I detailed how I have learned over the years to associate pain signals with productivity; if I can get lost in the art of creating something, the pain doesn’t seem so bad. What a lot of you don’t know is that, for decades, I have helped others to tap into their creative side to help them relax, find a sense of calm, and, indeed, to help them cope with chronic pain. I use my volunteer days in my current job to support children with special needs and/or who have been through trauma, to use art as a means by which to help them relax and learn new creative skills.

I enjoy helping others this way, and benefit so much from creative acts - sewing, collage, embroidery, painting - that I’ve decided I’d like to expand how often I do this. I’ve now almost completed my certification as an Art Therapist. Once I have my certification, I will be launching a series of courses on how to use art and creativity to help others see the wider beneficial joys of being creative. The first course - already designed! - will teach people how to manage their chronic pain levels through collage production and regular sensory interaction with fabrics and natural elements. I’m aiming to launch the first of these courses in November. So watch this space!
